About the Website

What is Rupture?

An online destination connecting gamers around the world, allowing them to share gaming experiences, events, challenges and achievements. Our system automatically tracks information about what you do in games, and presents it in a way that makes it easy for your friends to check out. Read more about Rupture on our About page.

I found a bug!

Report it! We continually perform thorough tests throughout the system, but we're human just like the rest of you and bugs do find ways to sneak past us. If you find something that doesn't work or look right, send an email to feedback AT rupture DOT com or click the feedback link at the top of the page! It's possible that we may contact you for more information about a bug submission.

Woah, this looks different!?

We've made a lot of changes the last several months. Based on the feedback, and usage, we collected during our initial beta last year we've done work to make Rupture more amazing. Now, we're structured around the gamer (you!) and what is happening in the games people are playing. As a heads up, you’ll likely see things change around the site as our team continues to make improvements and implement exciting new features. We really like our new design and are excited to see what you guys think, too.

What are the recommended and supported web browsers for Rupture?

We recommend using Firefox. Also supported is Internet Explorer 7.0 or higher and Safari.

Why haven’t I heard much about Rupture?

We’ve never done any form of marketing as we have not officially launched and currently remain in beta!

Friends

How do I find my friends?

The easiest way to find friends is to search for them by using the search tool in the upper right hand corner of the page. Although the search is limited in its current form - we plan to improve the functionality very soon to allow users to search for names of clans, guilds, and more!

Wait, how do I add a friend?

Following people you're interested in is very easy. Clicking "Follow" next to their name at the top of their feed will add them to the feed on your Dashboard and include them as part of your Network. You can also achieve the same action by clicking a user's thumbnail picture and selecting "Follow".

Follow, Followers, huh? I'm confused, I'm no stalker!

We didn't want Rupture to be another social site where you create yet another friend network that has no real value. Instead, simply find and follow all the people that you're interested in. When you follow someone, they become part of your network and are immediately included in the feed on your Dashboard. Should they want to follow you in return, they can choose to do so. However, the system does not require either side to take action in confirming any type of friendship. In the future, we may do things differently if two people choose to follow each other.

I want to get my friends on Rupture! Is there a way?

YES! We would love to get your friends rockin' on Rupture - they can sign up here.

Feed Interaction

The Feed.

The core of Rupture. The feed displays events collected by a gamer. Feeds are created for every gamer and any games they've added to the site. In the future, feeds will be customizable and offer advanced filtering options. Additionally, events also house event details which can be found by clicking on a single event in a feed. The current event details are a bit limited, but we're in the process of building out more content to be displayed on these pages.

How do I remove someone from my Feed?

Simply load the user's feed you want to remove. Click "Stop Following" next to their name in the feed or by clicking on their thumbnail picture.

Why can I not Follow myself?

Because there is no reason to. We separate your Network events from your own events. You can view your own feed by clicking the "My Events" tab on top of the feed in the Dashboard.

What do the different icons on the events indicate?

The icons are a label for what type of event it is. The different types of events are an advancement, achievement, match, group match, status or numerical event.

Why don’t events have more information when I click on them?

They will... soon!

Adding Games

How do I add a game or identity?

Use the “My Identities” link in the header (top of the page). Once there, you can add an identity for any of the games we support! Rupture immediately starts tracking an identity when it is added and looks for any new data associated with it. Once an identity has generated an event, it will add the game to your list of games being tracked. A game will not show up as part of your games list until an event has been generated from any of the identities associated with the game.

How do I edit or remove an identity?

Located on the "My Identities" page, you can edit or remove an identity by clicking the appropriate action next to the identity of your choice.

How come I receive an error message when I try to add an identity?

Often times, an error message is returned as a result of a user adding an identity they've already successfully added. However, if you're unable to add an identity that you own because it's been taken by someone else, please notify us by utilizing the Feedback link at the top of the page.

What games are coming on Rupture outside from what I've already seen?

We're not quite ready to spill all the beans here just yet... but we're excited about what we have coming. We’d love to hear any suggestions about what games you’d like to see on Rupture so make sure you drop us a line via our feedback link at the top of the page or e-mail us directly at feedback AT rupture DOT com.

How often are new games supported by Rupture?

We are always working on implementing new games into the system. You can expect new games to be supported nearly every month.

Profiles

Where did all the old stuff go?

The previously detailed profiles, specifically geared towards World of Warcraft, just didn’t fit in the direction we went with the new system. Some of the data that was previously tracked through our client and displayed on the old site before is still there, it just resides in a much more minor form as a simple event. However, we have big plans for events which we’re currently scoping out right now. These plans will include bringing back certain features and data tracking that many of you have been asking about!

How do I add a profile photo?

Click on edit profile in the upper right hand corner of any page. Once your photo is uploaded, you can drag the photo around in our thumbnail viewer to center it as desired. In addition to uploading a photo, you can also edit your account details here.

Community

How can I help as a user?

Feedback, feedback, feedback! We love hearing any and all suggestions, comments, questions and even complaints! Any feedback we receive we view as valuable information relating to our product. We love talking to and hearing from our users as most of us are gamers just like you. All feedback can be directed to feedback AT rupture DOT com, or click the feedback link at the top of the page which will pop up a simple box for you to type in and easily submit whatever you have to say!

Cool, I can chat with the people who work at Rupture and other users! Where?

We use a super freakin' awesome tool called Campfire, internally, and have setup a public channel for all of our users to join us in conversation. It's a live chat channel where you can find help from the Rupture team, talk amongst other users, discuss other Rupture related topics, make suggestions, report bugs, or shout out anything else that's on your mind! Join us in discussion!

I don’t see any forums, why not?

See above! Forums may sneak their way in, eventually - only the future will tell!

About Rupture Client

What is Rupture Client?

Rupture Client is a lightweight application designed and built by the Rupture team. It enhances a users Rupture experience by providing an efficient way to bring additional and detailed data to a users profile through the use of modules for your games. It's written in C++ using the wxWidgets library and compiles natively on Windows and Mac.

What operating systems does Rupture Client support?

Windows XP / Vista and Mac OS X 10.5.

Do I need to use Rupture Client?

No, but it does some cool stuff! Use of the client will enhance your Rupture experience by producing additional events through the tracking of extra and more detailed data for your games. We certainly recommend it if you're playing any games the client supports.

How do I download Rupture Client?

A quick download is available in the download section of our website. Make sure to download the appropriate client for your operating system.

How does Rupture Client work?

Well, it's quite simple! The client merely pulls and tracks extra data for different games you play. So Rupture essentially works in two ways. We automatically add events to your feed for your games if there is a source to pull events from. A couple examples of this are Blizzard's Armory and Valve's Steam. The use of the client allows you to publish extra game data not available from those sites. One of the features of "extra data" the client tracks is your presence being broadcast to your Rupture profile letting your friends know what game you're currently stomping faces in! We consider the client optimal for advanced users, but it is very easy to use.

How long does it take the client to publish new data to the site?

Data is submitted to the site, instantly, upon exiting whatever game you're playing. However, in most cases, the display of data on your feed will not be immediate. There is a delay of a few minutes, or more, before the site will actually publish the data to your feed.

Modules

What is a module?

Simply put, it is a game plugin for the client. Modules are additions to the client that create events that would normally not be available through the Rupture site. An example would be winning an arena match in World of Warcraft.

How do I install a module?

Currently, there are two modules which come pre-packaged with the Rupture Client: World of Warcraft, Grid Wars. Upon running the client after your first installation, you have the option to setup any of our Rupture modules by checking the box next to the module name during the setup process.

Alternatively, you can install a module by on the Modules tab. Click the "+" icon to install a module or the "-" icon to uninstall a module.

How do I start and stop a module?

Modules can be viewed by selecting the Modules tab, in the client. Highlight the module you wish to start or stop. Click the "Play" icon to start a module or click the "Stop" icon to stop a module. You can tell if a module is start or stopped by the status color next to the module name. Green means the module is active; red means the module is inactive.
